Scott Hawkins

Twenty-five years in the courtroom, and counting

Since being licensed in 2001, Scott Hawkins has built his entire career around a single point of focus: helping clients navigate a legal system that can feel overwhelming from the outside. Over the past two and a half decades he has personally handled hundreds of cases spanning a wide range of legal issues — from contested child custody and divorce to multi-million dollar intellectual property disputes — and today leads Hawkins & Associates from its Lafayette office, where he continues to take on both family law and personal injury matters across Acadiana.

Scott's philosophy has never changed: there are no "big cases" or "small cases," only clients who need his help. That approach has translated into a practice built on direct access to your attorney, honest assessments of where your case actually stands, and the trial experience to fight for you when a case can't be settled at the table.

Military service

Scott's path to the law began in the United States Army. In his junior year of high school, he enlisted, and upon graduation he completed U.S. Army Basic Training, the United States Army Parachute School (Airborne), and advanced Infantry training. He went on to serve his country in both the active-duty Army and the Louisiana National Guard, earning a promotion to Sergeant along the way. Scott's file includes numerous decorations recognizing his dedication to duty and to his fellow soldiers, among them the Army Commendation Medal (twice), the Army Achievement Medal (twice), and the National Defense Service Ribbon.

Education

After his military service, Scott attended Louisiana State University, where he studied political science and government and remained active in the LSU student community, regularly donating his time to veterans' organizations and student groups. He then continued on to the Paul M. Hebert School of Law at LSU, where he co-founded the university's chapter of the Federalist Society and earned a seat on the school's prestigious National Moot Court team. His performance there earned him the Louis J. Powell Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy, and his academic record earned him membership in Phi Delta Phi, a legal academic honor fraternity.
